BOINC stands for Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing. It was originally developed to support the SETI project but has since been used to help numerous other scientific research problems. More recently it has been used to help the fight against COVID-19 with the Rosetta@home project by tracking COVID-19 data. The project involves researching on how the protein spike folds to interact with and infect host cells.
